About UAE Fuel Pricing

The UAE Fuel Price Committee, established by the Ministry of Energy, sets official petrol and diesel prices on the first of every month. Prices are uniform across all emirates — what you pay in Dubai is the same as Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, or Fujairah.

Prices are calculated based on global crude oil prices in the prior month, plus operating costs and a small margin for distributors. The system has been in place since August 2015, replacing the previous government-subsidised fixed price.

The major fuel distributors operating in the UAE are ADNOC Distribution, ENOC, EPPCO, and Emarat. All charge the official price. The next official price update will be May 01, 2026.

Common Questions

Why does UAE petrol cost so much more than Saudi or Oman?

UAE liberalised its fuel pricing in 2015 to remove government subsidies. Saudi Arabia and Oman maintain partial subsidies, keeping consumer prices lower. UAE prices reflect global market rates plus local distribution costs.

Is petrol cheaper at any specific station?

No. ADNOC, ENOC, EPPCO and Emarat all charge the official price set by the UAE Fuel Price Committee. The price you pay is identical at every station nationwide.

What octane should I use?

Most modern cars run on Special 95. Premium and high-performance vehicles often require Super 98 — check your owner's manual. E-Plus 91 is a lower-octane option suitable only for certain older vehicles.

Why are prices identical at every UAE station?

The Fuel Price Committee mandates uniform pricing nationwide to prevent price competition that could destabilise the market. Distributors compete on service quality, locations, and loyalty programs instead.

How often do petrol prices change?

UAE petrol prices update on the 1st of every month based on the previous month's average global crude prices, USD-AED exchange rate, and distribution costs.
